A classic apple tart with a flaky crust and spiced apple filling, perfect for dessert or tea time.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups flour of wheat
  • 100 g cold butter in cubes
  • 0.5 cup cream of milk with serum
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder

Apple filling

  • 4 apples green apples sliced finely
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon powder
  • to taste nutmeg grated
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg beaten (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons demerara sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions 

  • Mix flour, butter, cream, salt, and baking powder to form a dough.
  • Add grated apple, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg to make the filling.
  • Roll out dough and place in a 25 cm tart pan, reserving some for the top.
  • Fill with apple mixture, cover with remaining dough, and brush with beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle with demerara sugar and bake at 180°C for 45 minutes.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, firm apples and ensure the crust is well chilled before baking.
