How to Make the Recipe

Now, let’s dive into the fun part – making these delicious croquettes!

  1. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until they are soft and fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. In a large bowl, combine the beef mixture with the mashed potatoes, breadcrumbs, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  4. Beat the egg in a small bowl and add it to the mixture, stirring until everything is well combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.
  6. In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the croquettes in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the croquettes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Pro Tips for Making the Recipe

Here are some of my favorite tips to ensure your croquettes turn out perfectly every time:

  • For extra flavor, consider adding herbs like parsley or thyme to the mixture.
  • If you want to make these ahead of time, you can freeze the uncooked croquettes. Just place them on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag.
  • Experiment with different fillings! You can use chicken, pork, or even vegetables for a meatless version.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve that perfect crispy texture.

How to Serve

These croquettes are incredibly versatile! Here are some serving suggestions:

  • Serve them as an appetizer with a dipping sauce like aioli or marinara.
  • Pair them with a fresh salad for a light lunch or dinner.
  • Enjoy them alongside a comforting bowl of creamy garlic pasta for a delightful meal.
  • They also make a great addition to a charcuterie board!

Make Ahead and Storage

If you’re like me and love to plan ahead, you’ll be happy to know that these croquettes can be made in advance! Here’s how:

  • Prepare the croquettes and freeze them uncooked. When you’re ready to enjoy, just fry them straight from the freezer – no need to thaw!
  • Cooked croquettes can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to regain their crispiness.
  • For longer storage, you can freeze cooked croquettes. Just make sure they are completely cooled before placing them in a freezer-safe bag.

So there you have it! My recipe for Croquetes de Carne Suculentos e Crocantes is not only a hit with my family but also a fantastic option for your next weeknight dinner ideas.
